What it’s for

Reading the documents your team writes — design docs, security reviews, policies — and producing new ones. A chat agent reads the design doc for the service under review; a workflow step writes a scan report as a new document, or comments on an existing one with what it found.

What agents can see

Google Docs has two layers of access, and it helps to know both before you connect: Documents agents create are owned by the bot account and are searchable automatically. Documents you merely share with the bot are reachable when an agent is given the link, but don’t appear in searches until an admin picks them with Choose files on the connection’s card.

Before you connect

  1. Create the bot Google account. See the bot account.
  2. Share any existing documents agents should work on with it.
  3. Sign your browser into the bot account, then follow the connect flow.
  4. Optionally, click Choose files on the connected card and pick the documents agents should be able to search. The picker grants access for whichever Google account the browser is signed into, so do this from the bot account too.
The authorization screen asks for access to Google Docs, to the Drive files the app creates or you pick, and to the bot account’s name and email.

What agents can do

When a document isn’t found, agents are instructed to treat that as “not shared with the bot account” and ask you for the link or to share it, rather than concluding the document doesn’t exist.

What agents can’t do

  • Delete documents, or move them between folders
  • Work with Sheets, Slides, or any Drive file that isn’t a Google Doc
  • Find a document in search that was shared with the bot but never picked with Choose files

Example

Ask in chat, with Google Docs connected:

Disconnecting in Console deletes Amplify’s stored authorization. To remove Google’s side of the grant too, sign in as the bot account and remove Amplify Console under Google Account → Security → Third-party apps & services.
